James Jones wants more action in Title Town
James Jones didn’t come out and say, “Give me the damn ball!”
But the Green Bay Packers wide receiver did express some frustration in how he was deployed – or how often he was deployed in the team’s season-opening victory over the New Orleans Saints.
Uh oh. Typically, we don’t hear these kinds of complaints coming out of Green Bay. But after Jones had only one Aaron Rodgers pass come his way, and after getting only 19 offensive snaps, he’d like a little more action.
“I want to say half of them were jumbo (three tight ends package) run plays,” Jones said, according to Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
Jordy Nelson was the clear No. 3 wide receiver and that’s a role Jones typically occupied last season when he was third on the offense with 50 receptions for 679 yards. Now, Jones and sensational rookie Randall Cobb are the fourth and fifth options, or at least after one week they were.
“I don’t care about the ball at all, but I truly, truly want to be in the game plan,” Jones said . “Everybody plays this game because they want to play. I’m not selfish. I understand we’ve got a lot of weapons, so I’m not saying I want the ball every play. But I think I deserve to be on the field more than I was.”
That’s one of the problems the Packers will have this season. There’s only one ball to go around. A lot of people want to touch it.
