Jason Peters sidelined with ruptured Achilles tendon

The Philadelphia Eagles re-signed veteran offensive tackle King Dunlap to a one-year deal and now we know why.

The club announced that veteran left tackle Jason Peters, an anchor of the offensive line, ruptured the Achilles tendon in his right leg on Tuesday. Peters was hurt will training in Texas. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday. The club didn’t address Peters’ availability for this coming season, but it’s fair to guess he will at least have to open the season on the physically unable to perform list.

Dunlap has appeared in 38 games over the last three seasons for the Eagles, making seven starts. He’s been a primary backup and could now be forced into a starting role. He has started at left tackle in place of Peters previously.

It will be interesting to see if this makes offensive tackle a priority for the team in the draft.
