Jason Witten set to go for Cowboys tonight

It’s yet to be seen how much Jason Witten will play tonight for the Dallas Cowboys, but the veteran tight end is active for the season-opening game at the New York Giants.

Witten was listed as doubtful for the game coming off a partially lacerated spleen suffered just 23 days ago. But he’s been cleared and was not among the seven inactives for the game, according to ESPN Dallas.

Witten did not travel with the team to New Jersey but arrived later after getting a scan of his spleen on Tuesday. He worked out on the field before the game and will go. Witten has participated in only three practices since the injury, which occurred Aug. 13 on a hit from Oakland Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain.

This will be Witten’s 140th consecutive game. He has missed only one game in his career in 2003 when he had a broken jaw.
