Jason Witten still a question mark for start of season

It’s premature to determine if Jason Witten will be able to play in the season opener for the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 5, but he’s back working out.

The veteran tight end did some rehabilitation work on Monday for the first time since suffering a lacerated spleen in preseason, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

The Cowboys do not know if Witten will be available to them for the start of the season. With wide receiver Miles Austin again sidelined with a pesky hamstring issue, it would be nice to have quarterback Tony Romo’s favorite target. Austin is expected to play against the Giants at MetLife Stadium in the opener.
