Jay Cutler fined $10,000 for taunting

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was fined $10,000 by the NFL for taunting after he was called for a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in last Sunday’s 28-10 victory over the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.

Cutler flipped the football at Vikings cornerback A.J. Jefferson after running out of bounds. It was just one of a handful of fines handed out because of action in the game between NFC North rivals.

Bears middle linebacker Brian Urlacher was fined $15,750 for a horse-collar tackle and defensive tackle Henry Melton was fined $7,875 for a facemask violation.

But Chicago free safety Chris Conte got good news when it came to a previous fine. His $21,000 fine for a hit on Carolina Panthers wide receiver Brandon LaFell was reduced by $10,000 after an appeal, according to Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune. Conte considered it a success.

“We went over the article in the rule book and hit the different points," Conte said. "I tried to offer my view of it and how (LaFell) was in a position where he already was going down, and I really wasn't at a point where I was targeting him. I just tried to show them that I had no intention of hitting him in the head.''
