Jerome Simpson gets 15 days in jail
Cincinnati Bengals free agent receiver Jerome Simpson was sentenced to 15 days in jail, placed on three years probation and fined $7,500 plus court costs for his plea to a charge of prohibited acts with a controlled substance, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
Simpson, who would have been a coveted commodity on the free agent market had the drug issue not been hanging over his head, will likely still land with a team in the off-season now that the case is behind him. He was scheduled to report Thursday evening to begin his sentence.
The St. Louis Rams had shown interest in Simpson, working him out on Wednesday, and their coach Jeff Fisher gave Pacman Jones a chance or ten when both were in Tennessee. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, also known to have harbored a few players who have had brushes with the law (including Jones), did not rule out Simpson returning to the Bengals.
