Jerry Jones: 'I thought (Asomugha) was going to be a Cowboy'

The Philadelphia Eagles emerged pretty much out of nowhere at the outset of free agency to sign cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, the top prize on the market.

The Eagles signed Asomugha for $60 million over the next five seasons but not until after Jerry Jones thought he had reeled in the All-Pro performer.

“We obviously wanted (Asomugha) or we wouldn’t have been in the $10 million and up range to get him,” Jones said on the SilverStar Network, according to the Dallas Morning News.

“We had known that he really wanted to be a Dallas Cowboy. And that’s a fact. There, for about an hour, I thought he was going to be a Dallas Cowboy. You do that because you can do it and should do it, and take advantage of the opportunity.”

Now, Jones and the Cowboys will have to face Asomugha twice a season in the NFC East.
