Jets' backup QB McElroy suffers thumb injury
All of a sudden, the ranks are looking a bit thin behind New York Jets starting quarterback Mark Sanchez.
Venerable backup Mark Brunell missed Thursday night's preseason finale against the Philadelphia Eagles with a calf injury, and rookie Greg McElroy departed with a thumb injury, according to the New York Post.
McElroy is scheduled to have an MRI today to determine the severity of the injury.
The good news for the Jets is that Brunell should be healthy enough to resume the No. 2 duties in time for the season opener on Sept. 11 against Dallas.
The better news is that starter Sanchez has proven to be plenty durable over his first couple of NFL seasons.
