Jets get the man they had to sign
The New York Jets have been all the talk about potentially landing the top free agent available – cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.
But the Jets got a piece to their puzzle that is even more important, agreeing to a five-year contract with wide receiver Santonio Holmes. The Jets’ ground game has been solid over the past few seasons but the team needs quarterback Mark Sanchez to take the next step in his third season and part of that progression is having quality targets. Holmes is just that, the best receiver that was on the market in the estimation of many.
This doesn't preclude the Jets from still going after Asomugha to have a daily double at cornerback with Darrelle Revis, but Holmes was paramount for this team.
Perhaps now the ball will get rolling for some of the other quality receivers that are available, including Sidney Rice and Malcom Floyd. Stay tuned. It’s just heating up.
