Jets owner says team is definitely interested in DeSean Jackson

New York Jets owner Woody Jackson left no doubt that his team is interested in Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

Jackson told reporters, including the New York Daily News, that the Jets have discussed Jackson.

Whether the Jets trade for Jackson remains unclear, but the Jets may be waiting to see if he's released.

“We’re looking at a number of players, including DeSean,” Johnson said. “He’s a very good player, but we’re looking at a number of them. A trade is not our primary operating motif right now. We’re trying to build through the draft. Building through the draft is something that I think is the way to build a successful team long term.”

Johnson technically wasn't supposed to talk about Jackson at all.

However, the Eagles aren't expected to pursue action against the Jets in the form of a grievance.

Michael Vick, the Jets' new quarterback, has already said that he would welcome playing again with Jackson. And Jackson has been enthusiastic on Twitter about the Jets, and the Carolina Panthers.

“We’re always interested in talent,” Johnson said in response to a question about if the team would go after Jackson if he's released. “If it’s somebody that fits into our locker room and understands that he can fit into our culture at a price that we can afford or we feel is appropriate, then we’d do it.”

Jackson caught 82 passes for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns last season, but he's due a $10.5 million salary next seaosn.
