Jets owner says Tebow will be around three years
New York Jets owner Woody Johnson said Wednesday that Tim Tebow will be with the team at least three more years, but also voiced support for current starter Mark Sanchez as a winner.
In comments made to CNBC and picked up by the New York Daily News, Johnson said of Tebow, "Are we going to keep Tebow? Absolutely. He’ll be with us for three years… I think he’s going to be a real valuable asset in terms of helping us win games."
As for Sanchez, Johnson professed support and loyalty there as well, despite the quarterback's struggles.
"I see the same things in Mark Sanchez (as) when I first met him. He’s still a young quarterback…. (Quarterback) is probably the most difficult position athletically and mentally that there is in all of sports,” Johnson said.
Sanchez is last in the league in completion percentage (48.4%) and has completed fewer than 50 percent of his passes in each of the last four games.
“We think he’s that good…. He really is that good. I wouldn’t look at the numbers too seriously… A quarterback’s job ultimately is to win games. Mark Sanchez has proven that he can do that. He pulled out a game a few weeks ago in the last couple minutes when we played Miami," Johnson said.
