Jets say Sanchez will remain starting QB

New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum is trying his best not to let acquisition of Tim Tebow create a quarterback controversy right off the bat.

Tannenbaum proclaimed shortly after the trade finally went through that Mark Sanchez remained the Jets starter and that Tebow would be the No. 2 quarterback and be used in Wildcat packages by the club.

“Mark Sanchez is, has been and will be our starting quarterback,” Tannenbaum said via the New York Post. “We’re adding Tim to be our backup quarterback and to play in other roles and packages.

"Every quarterback has a backup. We just changed who ours is."

Indeed, the Jets just signed Drew Stanton away from Detroit to be the No. 2 QB before the acquisition of Tebow. And while Sanchez is the starter, if he falters the way he did in 2011, you can bet the groundswell of support for Tebow will start soon after.
