Jets sign safety Alexander

The New York Jets have signed veteran safety Gerald Alexander to their roster, per multiple reports.

Alexander spent part of this season with the Miami Dolphins and has also spent time with the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars since entering the NFL as a second-round pick of the Lions.

The Jets lost safety Jim Leonhard to a torn patellar tendon in Sunday's game and placed him on injured reserve. Veteran Brodney Pool will start in Leonhard's spot with Alexander providing depth.
