Jilted Cowboys WR wants engagement ring back

This isn’t a case of Roy Williams dropping the rock as much as it is the Dallas Cowboys wide receiver making a pass that went incomplete.

Now, Williams would like the ring back and a temporary court injunction is scheduled for Friday.

The Odesssa American reports Williams filed lawsuit last week after the engagement ring he sent Brooke Daniels, a former beauty pageant winner, didn’t result in a “yes” answer from the woman. Williams proposed to Daniels through the mail and now he wants the $76,000 ring back.

In an affidavit, Williams says he sent Daniels $5,000 for school and medical bills, a baseball for her brother and the ring along with a surprise recorded marriage proposal before Valentine’s Day. Daniels declined to marry Williams, and he says she’s kept the ring. Also named in Williams’ lawsuit is Michael Daniels, the woman’s father.

This is where the report gets more interesting. Six weeks after sending the ring, Williams claims he asked for it back. Brooke Daniels said it was lost. So Williams reported it to his insurance company. Through an investigation, it was determined Michael Daniels had the ring.

Michael Daniels told the Odessa American he will return the ring to Williams to avoid a lawsuit. Michael Daniels said Williams originally said his daughter could keep the ring.

“ He said (to my daughter), ‘I’m not like a lot of people, I don’t want the ring back. You’ll eventually come back to me,’ and she didn’t,” Michael Daniels told the newspaper.

Brooke Daniels and Williams previously lived together. According to the story, engagement rings are considered under a conditional-gift rule in Texas. That means if they’re not accepted for marriage, they need to be returned.

We're not sure where through-the-mail proposals rank these days. Could that have had something to do with Brooke Daniels saying no?
