Jim Brown: Mangini deserves a longer look
From The Plain Dealer:
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Jim Brown thinks coach Eric Mangini deserves to stay based on what he's seen over the past several weeks, including back-to-back victories over the Steelers and Chiefs.
Question is, will Brown, an executive advisor in the front office, be able to persuade owner Randy Lerner -- and possible new president Mike Holmgren -- to keep Mangini?
"Of course I think he deserves it from Jim Brown's point of view," said Brown after Sunday's 41-34 victory over Kansas City. "What I'm looking at is an improved team. A lot of young people that we don't even know are playing good football.
"I don't know the politics behind the scenes. I'm not going to contradict [Lerner], but from my assessment we have two games left. If we win those two games, hey. If we lose them, things could get up in the air. Right now we've won two in a row and I think it's proven there is direction."
Brown said last week that the victory over Pittsburgh had substantial meaning for Mangini. Sunday, he said the come-from-behind victory over the Chiefs added to that.
