Jim Harbaugh rolls with Colin Kaepernick as starter
Jim Harbaugh made the announcement this afternoon that everyone with the exception of perhaps Alex Smith was expecting.
Colin Kaepernick will be the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday when they play against the St. Louis Rams at the Edward Jones Dome.
Kaepernick has helped guide the Niners to consecutive victories over the Chicago Bears and on the road against the New Orleans Saints.
“Colin we believe has the hot hand,” Harbaugh said at his press conference in Santa Clara, Calif., according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.
Kaepernick has passed for 680 yards with three touchdowns and had a passer rating of 102.3.
The move is further proof that NFL players can lose their starting jobs to injuries. Smith was removed from the team’s tie with the Rams on Nov. 11 when he suffered a concussion. This is further proof that the NFL is going to have a difficult time getting players on board with being forthright about head injuries. Smith got a concussion and now he has lost his starting job. That is the reality of the NFL, the ultimate what have you done for me lately business.
