Jim Schwartz calls Louis Delmas 'week-to-week'

It could be some time before the Detroit Lions get safety Louis Delmas back on the field.

Delmas has missed the first two games and will most likely miss Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans. He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in August and has not returned to the practice field yet. Delmas had surgery Aug. 7 to help relieve an issue with tendinitis.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports Lions coach Jim Schwartz said Delmas is “really not day-to-day. He’s still more week-to-week.”

Delmas missed the final five games last year with knee issues and it has been something that has plagued his career. A college scouting director for one team said his club removed Delmas from its draft board when he came out because of knee concerns.

Schwartz said Delmas has not suffered a setback since the surgery.

“It’s just we’re waiting for his knee to be better to get him back on the practice field and get him on the game field,” Schwartz said, per Birkett. “Like I said, that’s what it is. I never said that we expect to have him back. That’s the objective, but with injuries, we never go into any injury, whether it’s a guy with a pulled muscle or a guy with a knee injury- - a guy with anything -- and say, 'Hey, this is the timetable, and he’s coming back right then.'”
