Jim Tomsula takes over 49ers team in flux

New San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Tomsula is making the jump from defensive line coach to head coach.

Tomsula is a low-key coach who has a lot of work cut out for him.

"I believe it takes a village," Tomsula said. "No one man does anything by himself. I clearly understand the expectation of the ownership, on and off the field."

Tomsula signed a four-year contract.

Tomsula made no guarantees about a Super Bowl appearance.

"I'm not going to write a check," Tomsula said. "I'd rather show you, work towards it."

Tomsula was only a head coach with NFL Europe previously.

"I understand my journey is an unusual one," Tomsula said. "I've taken my family on three continents. Nothing has been the norm. I'm used to not normal."
