Jimmy Clausen making like George Jefferson in Carolina
Matt Moore is the clear No. 1 quarterback for the Carolina Panthers but just as clear is the organization’s goal to watch Jimmy Clausen develop. Fast.
Coach John Fox is in an interesting spot. He’s entering the final year of his contract with an unproven starter in Moore and a rookie second-round draft pick in Clausen. No coach feels real good about going into a season with questions at quarterback, but if Fox can coax some winning football out of Moore, or develop Clausen, that would bode well for his future in an organization that concentrated on dumping veteran salaries this offseason.
Clausen could be making like George Jefferson and movin’ on up in Carolina where Steve Reed of the Gaston Gazette reports the former Golden Domer was working with the second team. That means he’s moved ahead of Hunter Cantwell, no major accomplishment but a sure sign of progress.
How much work the No. 2 will be able to get in Carolina remains to be seen. The Panthers need to give Moore every opportunity to improve his game heading toward the season.
