Joe Banner has left the building

Cleveland Browns CEO Joe Banner no longer works for the team.

Team president Alec Scheiner told 92.3 The Fan that Banner no longer comes to the office. Banner was expected to transition out of his job and leave in May, but that has changed.

“He’s transitioned and he’s looking forward to what he does next,” Scheiner said. “In the building, we’re working with our group now.”

Meanwhile, Banner is expected to have other job opportunities in the league.

"My plan at this point is to take an extended period of time,"to step back and reevaluate the time I've been in the league and where I am in my life and then make a decision as to whether my future would include the NFL or not," Banner told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Banner and general manager Mike Lombardi were both fired by owner Jimmy Haslam as well as coach Rob Chudzinski. Now, Mike Pettine is the coach and Ray Farmer is the general manager.

“It’s been an incredible year but these are the years where you learn more than any other years,'' Scheiner said. "I had nine years in Dallas and as you guys know there’s not a lot of change in that organization at the top but I’ve learned a lot here. Because I’m in the building I can’t say I’m totally surprised.

"Jimmy made a decision consistent with how other NFL teams are run. If you look at the other successful NFL team right now, they have a very similar structure to the one we have.”
