Joe Lombardi: Reggie Bush, Joique Bell to split carries

Reggie Bush carried the ball 223 times for the Lions in 2013.

Though he tallied 1,006 yards and four touchdowns, don't expect to see that kind of total this year. Speaking to the Detroit Free-Press, Lions offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi said that Bush and Joique Bell will likely share running back duties this upcoming season.

"I see these guys kind of having a split role and both being very productive," Lombardi said.

Lombardi is familiar with Bush, being that he was an offensive assistant with the Saints from 2007-2008 before becoming the quarterbacks coach from 2009-2013. Bush was in New Orleans from 2006-2010 and never received more than 157 carries in the backfield in a single season.

Bush is also an active player in the receiving game, having caught 54 passes for 506 yards and three touchdowns a season ago.

But Bell is a player on the rise and someone the Lions will want to get the ball in the hands of. Bell carried the ball 166 times for 650 yards and eight touchdowns in 2013 and added 547 receiving yards, too.

When figuring out the snap distribution, it's definitely a good problem for the new Lions coaching staff to have.
