Joey Porter placed on injured reserve by Cardinals

Joey Porter has likely reached the end of the line in Arizona and it could be the end of his career.

The Cardinals placed the 34-year-old Porter on injured reserve after he’d been sidelined for two months following knee surgery. Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic notes that Porter took a pay cut from $5.75 million to $1.5 million this season, and this is the final year of his deal.

The Cardinals added Porter to give them an edge-rushing presence but he never was the player he proved to be earlier in his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins. Somers speculates it could be the end of a fine career for Porter. If it is, he ends with 98 sacks and a reputation last decade as one of the most consistent pass rushers out there. He had one sack this season and five a year ago.

Linebacker Brandon Williams was elevated from the practice squad to take the place of Porter.
