Johnny Manziel flops in debut
Hm, maybe Johnny Manziel wasn't what the Cleveland Browns needed after all.
The former Hesiman Trophy winner flopped in his NFL debut in a 30-0 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Manziel had a tough time getting anything going, finishing the day 10-18 for 80 yards and two interceptions. A few times, Manziel reverted to his backyard style of play that made him famous in college at Texas A&M. It cost him, specifically on his second interception of the game.
Sure, Manziel is young, but the Browns were still in a Wild Card race. Of course, teams can feel the pressure — internally and externally — to make a move like this. But in hindsight, maybe sticking with Briar Hoyer would have given the Browns a better chance to win.
There's no going back now. This is Manziel's team for the remainder of 2014 and it's time for him to learn on the fly in the final two weeks. But it's clear the Browns are done in the playoff race.
