Kafka, Scott, Trufant let go by Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars reduced their roster to 54 players, letting go of two of the five quarterbacks in camp.

The Jaguars released Mike Kafka and Matt Scott, keeping starter Blaine Gabbert, Chad Henne and Ricky Stanzi, who was claimed off waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs earlier in the week.

Jacksonville will also get a roster exemption for receiver Justin Blackmon, who is suspended for the first four games of the season.

The veterans released were wide receiver Jeremy Ebert, defensive end Pannel Egboh, Kafka, running back Jonathan Grimes, linebacker Brandon Marshall, wide receiver Charly Martin, offensive tackle Pat McQuistan, guard Drew Nowak, cornerback Kevin Rutland, defensive tackle D’Anthony Smith, linebacker Julian Stanford and cornerback Marcus Trufant.

“It’s always tough to let go of men that have played such an important role in what we are building here,” Jaguars General Manager David Caldwell said. “We are excited to get the 2013 regular season underway and we will continue to compete on a daily basis to build the best roster possible.”

First year wide receiver Toney Clemons and defensive end Ryan Davis were let go as well as the following rookies: Defensive tackle T.J. Barnes, offensive tackle R.J. Dill, tight end Ryan Otten, wide receiver Tobais Palmer, Scott, safety Steven Terrell and linebacker Mike Zimmer.
