Kenny Phillips opens training camp on PUP list

Kenny Phillips wasn’t able to take the field with his New York Giants teammates when camp opened on Sunday.

But the safety could return soon, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. Phillips opened camp on the physically unable to perform list. He underwent microfracture surgery on his knee early last season and isn’t quite ready to clear the final hurdle.

Phillips suffered just one of the injuries that decimated New York’s secondary a year ago. The club has added depth this season, signing Antrel Rolle in free agency, but the hope is for Phillips to be back in the mix. Obviously, he has much to prove.

“I feel really good. I'm just waiting for the trainers to give me the go-ahead,” Phillips said, according to the report. “They know what's right. They know what's best for me. I'm pretty sure they'll get me out there sooner than later. I don't think I'm going to miss too much time.”
