Kentwan Balmer MIA in 49ers camp

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Kentwan Balmer is dangerously close to becoming a former 49er.

The first-round draft pick from 2008 is missing in action without permission from training camp, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, and after two disappointing seasons it could be the impetus the club needs to unload him.

Coach Mike Singeltary had granted Balmer two days to deal with a matter that was described only as personal. Those two days are up and the 49ers are practicing today with Balmer nowhere in sight.

Balmer has reportedly been linked to an NCAA investigation into the possibility that players from the University of North Carolina received illegal gifts. His uphill battle to make the roster may have just gotten a wee bit more steep.
