Key Redskins defenders injured in costly loss at St. Louis

It was a painful loss for the Washington Redskins on Sunday at St. Louis as defensive end Adam Carriker suffered what is likely a serious knee injury and outside linebacker Brian Orakpo has a familiar pectoral injury.

Carriker will have an MRI on his right knee but he is expected to require surgery, according to Mike Jones of the Washington Post. He was injured on the second defensive possession of the game. Orakpo was hurt later in the first quarter as he sacked Rams quarterback Sam Bradford, forcing a fumble.

Orakpo came up holding his left arm and was in pain on the sideline. He left the Edward Jones Dome with his arm wrapped up and will go see Dr. James Andrews for an evaluation.

It just ripped on me, man,” Orakpo said, according to Jones. “Same injury as before. It’s just frustrating, man.”

Orakpo suffered a torn pectoral muscle in the season finale last year and underwent surgery in the offseason. He is the team’s top pass rusher and missing him would be a serious blow.
