Khan has some explaining to do to Gabbert
New Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan went Bud Adams on his front office regarding bringing a local hero quarterback back to his old grounds as a means to generate interest and perhaps wins in the process.
Just as Adams propelled the Titans into the chase for Peyton Manning, only to lose out to Denver, Khan admitted that he had the Jaguars' front office inquire about bringing Tim Tebow, a Jacksonville native, to the Jaguars.
When Tebow instead chose being traded to the New York Jets, Khan was forced to issue a statement about the Jaguars' decision, and to try and soothe things over with incumbent QB Blaine Gabbert. Adams did the same thing, voicing support for Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker in Tennessee after falling short in the Manning chase.
Here is the statement from Khan on the Jaguars' website:
“Earlier this week I asked Gene Smith and his staff to explore the potential of acquiring Tim Tebow. I think we have a duty to consider all avenues of improving the Jaguars on and off the field, especially given the unique circumstances involving the player. I appreciate the high level of due diligence Gene and his staff dedicated to this matter, even as late as this evening, and I am very satisfied with the outcome. Our commitment to developing Blaine Gabbert was, and still is, central to our goal of returning the Jaguars to elite status in the NFL. We’re looking ahead with zero regrets.”
