Knee issue plaguing Chris Cooley

Chris Cooley will be sidelined for at least the next few weeks as he hopes swelling and pain in his knee subsides.

Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Friday night after the team’s preseason opener that he couldn’t say specifically when Cooley would return.

Keep our fingers crossed that he’ll be back,” Shanahan said, according to the Washington Post. “When it will be, I can’t tell you for sure.”

Cooley had arthroscopic surgery on the knee following last season. He’s missed most of the training camp practices to this point and underwent an MRI that didn’t show anything alarming.

“He’s had it drained a few times. That’s not good,” Shanahan said. “He’s a tough player and he wants to get back quick. We have to give him a little break and hopefully we’ll get the knee responding.”
