Kolb embraces opportunity before him

Kevin Kolb is the man now in Philadelphia and the Eagles wasted no time in rolling him out today.

Less than 24 hours after trading away the most decorated quarterback in the history of the franchise, the Eagles made the quarterback of the future available.

"Everything I've done in my life has led to this," Kolb said. "I'm ready to roll and lead this team.

"I didn't even blink when Andy (Reid) told me. I really didn't," he said. "I'm excited about it. I'm sure it will have a little drama, but it will be a fun ride. I truly have that outlook on it. I think this team will surprise some people.”

Make no mistake about it, Kolb is the only reason why Reid and the brass in Philadelphia made the decision to ship out McNabb. Kolb started two games in his place last season, becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to pass for more than 300 yards in his first two games, and now the franchise is here, six months away from the beginning of a new era with Kolb.

“(Winning the Super Bowl) has been our goal since I've been here, since Andy’s been here," Kolb said. "That's not going to change because we're going younger. We will have the same focus day in and day out like when we were when we were trying to make those runs with all the veterans.”

Kolb said he and McNabb have traded text messages but have yet to talk. He credits McNabb with teaching him a lot, particularly with how to deal with people and always having a smile on his face. Kolb has been credited with forging strong relationships with the team’s young wide receivers.

He’s going to have his own style, though, and the Eagles are going through an adjustment period even if everyone in the organization swears it’s not a rebuilding phase.

"Something has to change, some for the good, some for the worse," Kolb said. "I'm a totally different style guy ... There are differences but at the same time as long as it leads to the Super Bowl, that's all we're after."
