Kraft: Patriots want Welker back

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft addressed the media on Friday and spoke on a number of topics, including how much he considers the team his extended family in the wake of his wife Myra's death last year.

But buried in that story is a nugget regarding one of the most important members of that extended family - wide receiver Wes Welker, who can be a free agent at season's end.

Kraft said via the Boston Herald that the Patriots want to re-sign Welker, who unlike many 30-year-old receivers, has plenty left in the tank, posting 122 catches for a career-high 1,569 yards and nine touchdowns.

"I think Wes wants to be here, we want him here," Kraft said, adding that he hoped both sides would be wise enough to work out a deal for Welker to stay in New England.
