Lardarius Webb to miss rest of preseason

The Ravens will have to wait for the regular season to get Lardarius Webb.

On Monday, coach John Harbaugh told reporters that Webb will miss the remainder of the preseason due to a lingering back injury he sustained early in training camp. The cornerback position has been snakebit all preseason for the Ravens, and the added risk of putting their best corner on the field at less than 100 percent probably doesn't seem worth it.

Baltimore's other two top corners, Jimmy Smith and Asa Jackson, are dealing with injuries as well. Jackson, the likely leader for the No. 3 cornerback position, injured his ankle in practice over a week ago. Harbaugh said Jackson has a chance at suiting up against the Redskins on Saturday.

"Asa has a chance, but ‘touch-and-go’ is probably a good way to say it," Harbaugh said. "I’ve been told that he has a chance to get back for this game. It would be great if he could."

Smith suffered a chest contusion this past Saturday against the Cowboys, which resulted in the fourth-year corner coughing up blood. He also has a shot at playing against Washington.

"He had an MRI. There was bruising in there," Harbaugh said. "There’s a little bleeding from the lungs. He basically fell – if you watch the play – from four feet, and he was up in the air leaning backwards ... and then just fell straight on his back between the shoulder blades. That’s what causes that internal type of situation. But they said it’s not a serious thing, and he needs just a couple days to heal up. We do anticipate him to play against the Redskins, unless something changes that I’m not aware of.”
