Late round quarterbacks who are worth a look

So much has been made of this year’s quarterback class and rightfully so. There are a number of potential first round picks, as well as a litter of talented senior quarterbacks who could all end up coming off the board in the first three rounds.

But where do you go from there?

Here is a look at three later round/free agent type quarterbacks who will all have a shot of making a roster come 2011.

TaylorICONTaylor has improved every year during his time at Virginia Tech.

Tyrod Taylor: Virginia Tech (6-1, 217)
Taylor is a bit undersized, but the guy can consistently buy time for himself in the pocket, create second lives and did a much better job this year keeping his eyes down the field through the play. He’s developed every year as a quarterback and overall gives the coaching staff a talented athlete to work with. Definitely has some Mike Vick to his game and certainly could carve out a niche similar to the one of Seneca Wallace at the next level.

Adam Froman: Louisville (6-4, 219)
The former junior college transfer wasn’t exactly featured in Louisville’s run first offense this past year. However, you can tell on tape he’s got an above-average arm, can spin the football cleanly and displays nice touch on his deep ball. Plus, he’s comfortable taking snaps from under center and is a gifted athlete for the position, running in the 4.5 range at his pro day. Froman is going to need some time to develop, but has a skill set that is certainly worthy taking a look at during camp.

Mitch Mustain: Southern Cal (6-2, 200)
I really do believe that if it were not for his arrest on suspicion of selling prescription narcotics in February, Mustain would have been drafted. However, it now looks like he’ll need to go the free agent route. But, the guy does have some tools that are worth taking a shot on. Mustain is a winner; he’s comfortable in a pro style system and displays very good accuracy/ball placement on all areas of the field. He won’t be a fit for every scheme as he lacks a great arm, but he strikes me as a guy who could handle an NFL offense early in his NFL career and earn a job as a number three initially.
