Leslier Frazier has 'moved past it' when it comes to contract snub

The Minnesota Vikings picked up an option year in the contract of coach Leslie Frazier earlier this month as otherwise he would have been entering the final season of his deal after guiding the club to the playoffs in one of the bigger surprises in the NFL.

But Frazier was hoping for a multi-year extension, the kind of gesture that would be a true reward and provide security for him after a turnaround from 3-13 to 10-6. It didn’t come and it was apparent the coach was at least frustrated by the situation. The Vikings did not hold talks with him about a new deal, they just exercised his option for 2014.

I’ve got to concentrate on 2013 and getting our team and our coaches ready to have a great season,” Frazier said, according to Dan Wiederer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “That’s what’s most important. And that’s really the only thing that’s important. So that’s where my focus will be.”

Has is made his situation somewhat awkward?

“I moved past it,” he said. “It is what it is and I’ve got to concentrate on getting our team ready for this season. The most important thing for me and the best thing that I can do for our team is to really focus on getting our guys ready to have a great season.”

He and his agent Bob LaMonte had figured the team would come to them about a long-term agreement. But …

“What I believe and what actually is is what you have to deal with,” Frazier said. “You guys know the reality. And that’s what I want to deal with, the reality of the situation.”
