Lions announce Louis Delmas has knee surgery

The Detroit Lions announced that safety Louis Delmas, who has a history of durability issues, had a quick trip to the doctor.

Delmas travelled to see Dr. James Andrews and underwent a “surgical procedure” on his left knee, the club revealed on its Web site.

Delmas suffered a right knee injury last season when he missed five regular-season games.

The veteran leader of the secondary opened camp with the Lions in good shape but was then held out of practices leading to the surgery. The club did not announce a timetable for a return.
