Lions can't say if Jahvid Best will return following bye

The Detroit Lions are in the midst of their bye week and that will give Jahvid Best more time to recover from his most recent concussion.

But there’s no telling right now what kind of timetable the talented running back has, according to Chris McCosky of the Detroit News. Best has missed the last two games for the Lions (6-2) after suffering a concussion for the second time in three months.

"We'll see," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said when asked if Best would return following the bye. "You can't have a timetable on these things. We've gone through it with Justin Durant and Tony Scheffler. Some come back quickly and some last longer."

Scheffler went to the emergency room following the game when he was injured last month but missed only one game. Durant was on the sidelines for three days. There’s no blueprint for recovery from head injuries, and it’s all on a case-by-case basis.

"The one thing we will be sure to do is be objective and listen to the people who are the experts in these decisions," Schwartz said. "Like I've said a hundred times, it's not something you can put tape on or tough out. We have to be conservative."

Hopefully for Best, he can pass the NFL’s tests soon. More importantly, Best needs to be in a situation where he is confident he will not suffer recurring concussions.
