Lions cut CB Wade to make room for a new kicker
The Detroit Lions, who are constantly shuffling their secondary, have released cornerback Jonathan Wade.
The move, reported by Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, raises the question whether or not the Lions could be taking a hard look at a cornerback they know quite well from the NFC North.
Six teams have made inquiries regarding Al Harris, who was placed on waivers Monday by the Green Bay Packers. Harris will find out within a matter of two hours or so if he has been claimed.
Wade began the season as a starter but quickly fell on the depth chart. His place has been taken by kicker Dave Rayner, who was signed to replace injured veteran Jason Hanson. This could create a need for a cornerback and Harris certainly knows the division. He’s not the type of young player Detroit is trying to rebuild with, but Harris would be a positive force for younger players on the defense. Stay tuned.
