Lions interview Gary Kubiak
The Detroit Lions interviewed former Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak today, the team announced.
Kubiak was fired with three games remaining for the Texans after 11 consecutive losses.
The Texans were a trendy offseason Super Bowl pick, but had a terrible season that led to Kubiak's firing.
They hold the top overall pick and hired Penn State coach Bill O'Brien as Kubiak's replacement.
Kubiak is a former Denver Broncos quarterback and offensive coordinator who went 61-64 with the Texans.
Kubiak had a mini-stroke against the Indianapolis Colts and was hospitalized, returning after a one-game absence.
The Lions previously interviewed Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell and are scheduled to interview former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak on Friday as well as San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt at some point this week.
The Lions' job vacancy, created when Jim Schwartz was fired, is regarded as one of the most attractive openings because of the presence of quarterback Matthew Stafford, wide receiver Calvin Johnson and a talented defensive line headlined by Ndamukong Suh.
