Lions petition NFL to review catch rule in end zone
The Detroit Lions have asked the NFL to review the rule that made Calvin Johnson’s apparent game-winning touchdown with 24 seconds to play on Sunday at Soldier Field just another incompletion.
Johnson pulled down a high pass from Shaun Hill with both hands, landed with two feet on the ground and then fell to his rear. It was as he rolled over and used the ball in his right hand to brace himself that the ball squirted out.
“It was a touchdown,” said Bill Ford, the team’s vice chaiman, according to the Detroit Free Press. “I saw it. You saw it.”
Ford wants the league to inspect the rule determining what is a touchdown receptions and what isn’t.
“The rule is more cryptic than the Dead Sea scrolls,” Ford told WJR-AM this morning.
