Lions rack up $40,000 in fines in New Orleans meltdown

The fines keep piling up this season for the Bad Boys from Detroit.

OK, maybe that was the basketball team that used to play in the city. But the fines sure are accumulating for the Lions. There were another $40,000 in fines that were handed out this week following the club’s latest meltdown Sunday at New Orleans.

Tight end Brandon Pettigrew was fined $25,000 for “abusive conduct toward game officials,” according to the Detroit Free Press. Pettigrew made contact with official Jeff Seeman after a play. Late in the fourth quarter, he got tangled up with Saints safety Roman Harper. After he got up, he pushed Seeman, although it didn’t look like he was out to harm the official. Pettigrew indicated he will appeal the fine.

Wide receivers Nate Burleson and Stefan Logan were fined $7,500 each. Burleson was zapped for a facemask violation while Logan flipped the ball to an opponent after a play, a no-no and a fine example of how undisciplined Jim Schwartz’s team is no matter how much the coach protests that label.
