Lions 'very interested' in adding Ryan Grant
Ryan Grant will travel to Detroit Sunday to meet with the Lions staff on Monday and a deal for the free-agent running back could be in place soon.
Grant’s agent Alan Herman told Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the Lions are “very interested” but that the Green Bay Packers have not called. Grant, 29, has also made a visit to the New England Patriots.
The Lions, of course, have a need. Jahvid Best is expected to be cleared to return from two concussions suffered last season in June. The status of Mikel Leshoure, a second-round draft pick last year, is rather murky. Leshoure faces a felony charge of marijuana possession. Not only does he have the legal system to tangle with, he could be facing potential discipline from the NFL.
So, the Lions could use a back and Grant is a familiar performer. He is an effective pass protector when needed and is also a solid receiver out of the backfield.
