Louis Delmas has to be in the minority on this one.

The Detroit Lions safety thinks the team should keep the secondary together.

While some of the parts have to stay for sure, the Lions are in need of upgrading their defensive backfield, one that was significantly worse with Delmas sidelined for the final five regular-season games with a torn MCL.

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Delmas says he is 100 percent and has been training in Florida.

“Everybody's going to have their own opinion, but as far as coming from a leader of the secondary, I think we did all right," Delmas said, per Birkett. "If we do make changes, I hope it's for the better, because who we have right now are who I'm comfortable with, and I hope to be playing with them next year.”

He had high praise for fellow safety Amari Spievey, who will be entering his third year. The safety was drafted as a cornerback and is continuing to develop.

“Let me tell you something, Spievey is a tremendous athlete," Delmas said. "He's very smart, he's very big, and he's a competitor. He allowed me to do my job a little more easier this year. I didn't have too much to worry about. I knew where he was going to be at all times, and he knew where I was going to be at all times. We're very compatible."

We’ll see what shakes out in free agency – where the Lions are going to focus on keeping their own – and the draft. Detroit could use an infusion of young talent on the offensive line. But the Lions are also in need of reinforcements in the secondary and at linebacker.
