Lovie Smith: 'I like our chances next year'
Lovie Smith had a chance to do his best Rex Ryan imitation this morning, a day after the New York Jets coach guaranteed his team would win Super Bowl XLVI.
But the Chicago Bears coach took a pass. Both teams reached conference championship games last month, and Smith said he likes his team’s chances moving ahead to 2011 after the coach got a two-year extension this morning.
“I’ll make a prediction that the guys are going to play as hard as they possibly can each week and I can take the results knowing the football team that we have,” Smith said. “I can just guarantee you we’re going to play the way our players play always. Can’t ask for anything more from them. There’s nothing guaranteed.
“But you look at our history. We’ve won more games than we’ve lost. In our team here, we’ve won the (division) championship three times. We’ve been to the championship game a couple years. Our staff knows what they’re doing. We have good players. And I like our chances next year.”
