Mankins could begin season on PUP
Guard Logan Mankins has virtually no chance of being ready for training camp or the start of the regualar season due to off-season surgery to repair a torn ACL.
Mankins unknowingly played in the Super Bowl with the injury and had surgery afterwards.
ESPN.com's James Walker suggests that the physically unable to perform list (PUP) is a likely landing spot for Mankins. That would give the Patriots and Mankins the first six weeks of the season for him to rehab and then another three weeks to practice before any decision is made regarding his status on the 53-man roster.
Given a nine-month time frame to recover, the earlier Mankins could be expected back is likely early November.
