Marcell Dareus seeking pre-trial diversionary program
With felony drug charges pending, Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus is seeking a pretrial diversionary program, according to a report from ESPN.
Dareus was arrested in Alabama and charged with possession of synthetic marijuana. If Dareus is admitted into the program, then he would likely undergo counseling. If completed, he would have the charge stricken from his record.
Dareus has had a rocky offseason as he has another legal matter pending. He's facing three misdemeanor charges after crashing his Jaguar vehicle into a tree, which allegedly happened as a result of a street race.
When Dareus wants to be on his best behavior, he's quite effective on the field. He's had 18.5 sacks in his first three years, with a single-season best 7.5 coming in 2013. Dareus should be more careful about his off-field activities, because one more mess-up and he could be looking for a new job.
