Marijuana charge against Nick Fairley is dropped

Nick Fairley now faces only one criminal charge from a wild offseason for the Detroit Lions defensive tackle.

Prosecutors in Mobile, Ala., dropped a misdemeanor charge against Fairley today stemming from an April 3 arrested, according to the Detroit News.

Fairley was pulled over and he and a passenger in his Cadillac Escalade were arrested after partially smokes marijuana cigarettes were discovered. Authorities determined they could not prove the contraband belonged to Fairley.

But he’s not out of the woods yet. Fairley faces a felony charge of driving under the influence after being pulled over May 27 when he is accused of traveling in excess of 100 mph. The case is likely to heard in January. Per the report, Fairley hopes to enter a pre-trial diversion program. Successful completion could lead to the charge being dropped.

Fairley still faces potential discipline from the NFL.
