Marion Barber slimming down
Who is going to be the starting running back for the Dallas Cowboys?
It makes for an interesting debate. Marion Barber isn’t talking about his plans in Dallas according to Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News, but his actions are worth talking about. Per Fraley, Barber has recently dropped 10 pounds from his frame of last season when the Cowboys listed him at 222 pounds. Now, whether he was actually 222 or maybe a little more isn’t known, but the feeling is that Barber has regained some quickness and elusiveness that might have been loist.
“He's leaner and looks quicker than he's been,'' running backs coach Skip Peete told Fraley. “It's noticeable. I'm excited to see what he does when we get to camp.”
Barber struggled last season and there are those who are hopeful that Felix Jones will have an opportunity to start. His durability might be compromised. Tashard Choice is also very much in the mix. The bottom line is the Cowboys need a reliable running game. Whoever they count on to be the starter has to be comfortable sharing the load too. They have capable backs and if Barber can bounce back from a mediocre season, they will be much stronger.
