Mark Sanchez could be out for the season with labral tear

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has a torn labrum in his right throwing shoulder and needs to have season-ending surgery recommended by Dr. James Andrews, according to ESPN.

Sanchez is now pondering if he should have the surgery, which was caused by damage to the shoulder in the third preseason game. A decision could happen in the next day or two.

Now, rookie Geno Smith is the starter.

Sanchez told ESPN in a text message: "If I needed surgery right now, I never would have left Andrews' office. I would've stayed and got the surgery. There's nothing to report. It's reckless."
