Matt Forte doesn't have timetable for return or regrets
Matt Forte is doing all he can to get back on the field for the Chicago Bears as fast as he can, and that included receiving a platelet rich plasma injection in his right knee on Tuesday.
Forte suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee in Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at Soldier Field. He’s expected to miss the next several weeks and could very well be done for the remainder of the regular season, a major blow to a team trying to hunt down an NFC wild-card spot.
“I feel all right. I have good range of motion,” Forte said, according to Fred Mitchell of the Chicago Tribune. “I'm here, standing up and walking around, so obviously that's good. MCLs usually don't take a whole lot of time to get back. But it does vary from two to as long as six weeks. I don't want to make any predictions because I really don't know. I got a injection this morning that is supposed to make it heal faster.”
Forte has been in a contract staredown with the team since preseason when talks broke off. He’s seeking a long-term extension. If a deal cannot be reached, the Bears are expected to place the franchise tag on him. He's been the most valuable player the team has on offense, carrying Chicago for much of the season.
"I have no regrets. I did extremely well this year. If there were any doubts, I answered them,” he said. “At any time, you can be injured. Thank God I don't need surgery (and a) long rehab.
"This year has been great even though I'm battling through the contract negotiations. It's unfortunate that with four games left, I have an injury. But hopefully this injury gets healed up."
The Bears will replace Forte with a two-headed rushing attack of Marion Barber and Kahlil Bell in the meantime. Chicago plays at Denver on Sunday and the team will be without quarterback Jay Cutler.
