Mayor says Joe Montana may have suffered broken leg

Joe Montana should be ready for a game-winning drive – or business-winning drive – but July 12.

That is the date the Hall of Fame quarterback will make an appearance before the Santa Clara city council to help pitch a business proposal he’s a part of that looks to take advantage of the new stadium going up for the San Francisco 49ers in the neighborhood.

Montana and former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. are members of a group pushing to build a luxury hotel, restaurant and bar across the street from the 49ers facility and basically next door to the new stadium, that will be ready for 2015. At issue is the fact the city currently owns the small 2.3 acres of land that would be developed.

Montana chose to cancel an appearance before the city council on Tuesday because injuries suffered in an ATV accident may have been worse than originally reported, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee. According to the report, Montana suffered a black eye as well as a leg injury.

They weren't sure if it was fractured or not,” Santa Clara Mayor Jamie Matthews told Barrows.

Montana reportedly was seen at his 55th birthday party on crutches. It sounds like the city wants to work with the group to develop the land, so Montana and Co. should be fine.
